Theaters Cancel Showings Due To 9/11 Threats

The Interview Canceled

This is terrifying. After receiving 9/11-styled threats of an attack on theaters that screen ‘The Interview’, Sony has given permission to theater owners to cancel any and all screenings of the film if they feel unsafe.

Sony is taking extra precaution after hacking group Guardians of Peace released chilling threats of a 9/11-esque atttack on theaters that screen James Franco and Seth Rogen‘s upcoming film The Interview. Theaters were given permission by Sony on Dec. 16 to cancel screenings of the film should they feel unsafe, and theater owners are frantically canceling the screenings.

‘The Interview’ Premiere & Showings Canceled: Theaters Scared Of Hacker Threats
Movie theaters have been warned, and Sony also warned people to stay far away from places where the film may be shown, according to the Daily Mail.

The Carmike Cinemas chain, which operates 278 theaters in 41 states, is reportedly the first chain not to show the film when it opens on Christmas Day, and there will likely be many more chains to cancel showings as well.

It looks like good precaution is being taken. James, 36, and Seth, 32, cancelled their media appearances for the controversial comedy, while the film’s New York premiere set for Dec. 18 has reportedly been cancelled as well, according to our sister site Deadline.
