Mel B has been controlled by Stephen Belafonte for too long - she deserves better

So Mel B is on the brink of kicking out ­husband Stephen Belafonte after speculation he beat her.

But prior to the singer’s revelation that she might not take him back, Stephen was all over the place denying he had hit her.

Mel missed an episode of the X Factor last week when she ended up in hospital.

He then said: “Who ­accused me of it, did she accuse me of it, the police, the hospital, who?”

Well, no one actually that I’ve read, although many had pointed out that he has previous for ­domestic violence. In fact it has emerged he’s been convicted of quite a few vile crimes, including killing a duck with a brick.



The couple apparently have not seen nor spoken to each other since she was rushed to hospital – and very publicly she stopped wearing her wedding ring.

Rumours have been around for a long time of how controlling he is and it’s no secret that Mel has been estranged from most of her family for a long time. One of the first things controlling men do is separate their ­women from loved ones.

I once worked with Mel, she was a guest panelist on Loose Women for a week. On the first day she was in full Mel B mode – loud, louche and very, very open when talking about her sex life.

The next day she came in and was a shell of the woman we’d seen the day before. Suddenly she was very careful about what she was saying, like she’d been told off.
